| Description | The Psychiatric Emergency Service (PES) at St. Joseph's Hospital consists of Psychiatrists, Registered Nurses, Social Workers and learners that work together to provide compassionate care that respects the dignity and privacy of all persons receiving emergency psychiatric care. Psychiatrists in PES only sees people who have been referred by an emergency room doctor or a family doctor. The PES unit is exclusively accessed for persons with mental health problems. It operates in partnership with the general emergency department. All persons in PES are seen by the emergency room doctor unless they are referred directly from a physician in the community. The nurses who provide care for patients in this area have expertise in psychiatric/mental health nursing. | |||
