The Anxiety Treatment and Research Centre offers comprehensive evaluations and proven treatments for anxiety-related conditions including: Panic Disorder with or without Agoraphobia; Social Phobia (Social Anxiety Disorder); Specific Phobias; Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD); Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD); Anxiety and Depression Comorbidity; Posttraumatic Stress Disorder; and Acute Stress Disorder.  
 
Treatments at the ATRC include both medications and effective psychological treatments. Staff is available to consult with the patient's family doctor, psychiatrist and other professionals, who are involved in patient care.  
 
The Anxiety Treatment and Research Centre is staffed by clinical psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and other professionals, as well as students and trainees from these disciplines. Clinical staff are affiliated with the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences at McMaster University. 
 
 
CHILDREN (under 17) 
 
The Anxiety Treatment and Research Centre at St. Joseph's Healthcare (Charlton Campus) offers children and adolescents under the age of 17 years with a probable diagnosis of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) the following services: 
 
Hamilton Catchment Area: Consultation on a non-urgent basis for diagnostic assessment and clarification, treatment recommendations and medication consultation. The consultation includes an extensive psychoeducational component. Following the consultation, a referral may be made to Chedoke Child & Youth Mental Health Services for OCD treamtent if necessary. 
 
Out of Catchment: Consultation on a non-urgent basis for diagnostic assessment and clarification, treatment recommendations, and medication consultation. The consultation includes an extensive psychoeducational component. Treatment may be offered for OCD if necessary.

EligibilityAdults and Children under the age of 17 with a suspected diagnosis of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. 
 
All Patients must have a family physician as well as a referral from a physician (e.g., family doctor, a psychiatrist, or another physician). 
 
ApplicationPatients must have a referral from a physician (e.g., family doctor, a psychiatrist, or another physician). Referrals are reviewed by our staff and in some cases we may contact the patient to get further information. If the ATRC appears to be an appropriate service, an assessment visit is scheduled for a more detailed evaluation. Note that an assessment does not guarantee treatment at the ATRC. A copy of our assessment report and treatment recommendations will be sent to the referring physician.
