|Description||HOW WE HELP: |
The City of Hamilton provides funding to agencies that provide emergency shelter services. They provide a tempoarary place to stay for people who are homeless. Shelters are availalbe for single men, single women, families and youth. People seeking shelter should contract the appropriate shelter directly by telephone or in person to see if space is availalbe. The Province of Ontario funds shelters for women and children fleeing abuse.
The division works with the community to develop strategies to end homelessness through research, planning and community consultation. Over 30 community programs are funded to help people experiencing homelessness rebuild their lives.
The City of Hamilton provides rental housing for low-income individuals, families and seniors who cannot afford adequate housing at market rates. Accessible units are also available for those with physicial disabilities. The City funds, monitors and coordinates 44 social housing providers that own and operate rent-geared-to-income and market rent housing units across Hamilton.

Ontario Renovates (formerly RRAP)
The City of Hamilton offers financial assistance to low income households who own and occupy substandard housing to enable them to repair their dwellings to a minimum level of health and safety. Eligible property owners may also apply for repair assistance.
Residential Care Facilities provide housing to residents who require 24/7 supervision and assisatance with the daily activities of life. Subsidy (Domiciliary Hostel program) is availalbe for people who need to reside in a Residential Care Facilitiy and do not have the financial means.
Hamilton Down Payment Assistance Program
When funding is availalbe, eligibile households who are over the age of 18 and renters who do not currently own a home or property, may receive down payment assistance for a newly built or resale home.
Research and Planning:
The division is extensively involved in research, including the Housing and Homelessness Action Plan, to address housing and homelessness in Hamilton and help support system changes.
