DescriptionThe Immigrant Women's Centre -- is an equality seeking, anti-racist, non-profit, charitable organization committed to the social, political and economic inclusion of refugee and immigrant women in Hamilton. Services include: 
 
Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC)  
* this program assists newcomers with the ability to speak, read, and write in English  
* provides pre-literacy and levels 1 through 7 English instruction by qualified instructors 
* bus tickets and no-cost childcare is available for participants 
* landed immigrants, convention refugees and permanent residents can access this program  
* students can participate in full-time, part-time, evening and women's only classes are available 
 
 
LINC Enhanced Telephone and Workplace Communication Skills Program 
* available for students who are eligible for LINC 
* aims to enhance workplace communication and conversation skills 
* has a strong focus on English telephone communication skills and workplace culture 
* the courses are provided in a telephone lab where students learn key expressions, vocabulary for business, writing memos, email and presentations 
 
 
Immigrant Settlement and Adaptation Program  
* this program assists newcomers by providing information and support in 20 different languages 
* some supports provided by this program include orientation to the community, provision of information about immigration, information about community resources and services, referrals to such services as well as assistance with form completion and interpretation 
* ISAP counsellors can tell you more about healthcare, housing, your legal rights, your legal responsibilities as well as information about social assistance programs  
* you must be a convention refugee or permanent resident to access this program  
 
 
Employment Services and Supports  
* also referred to as Enterprising Women Program  
* includes individualized services such as resume and cover letter writing, interview preparation, counselling, personal support and encouragement 
 
 
6-week I-Work! Program 
* provides an intimate venue for immigrant and refugee women to explore Canadian job search strategies 
* workshop topics include: skills and personality assessments, goal setting, resume writing, cover letter writing and intensive interview training  
 
 
Computer Classes 
* monthly computer classes are available to program participants 
* the classes take place in a computer lab and assist newcomers with learning how to use a computer to search for information, write documents and more 
 
 
Driving Club 
* provides immigrant and refugee women with in-class instruction to facilitate their success in the G1 driving license test 
* this is an important test which leads to the G2 road test 
* this program bolsters the autonomy and employment possibilities for immigrant women 
 
 
Financial Literacy Program 
* this program is made of six (6) week sessions which help newcomer women to control their financial futures by teaching them financial management 
* all newcomer women are welcome to attend 
* the topics include, but are not limited to, a) basic banking, b) budgeting, c) savings, d) borrowing, and e) fraud protection  
 
Community Connections Mentorship Program (formerly HOST Program) -- group activities for newly arrived immigrants and refugees of all ages to help orient them to their new community and establish social and professional networks * trained and experienced volunteer mentors assist, with focus on citizenship and civic engagement or skills and career development
