| Description & Services | ||||
| Description | The Mood Disorders Program (MDP) is a component of Mood and Anxiety Services and is located on the D1 wing of the Centre for Mountain Health Services (CMHS). MDP offers a full continuum of empirically validated services for persons with a mood disorder living in the Hamilton Niagara Haldimand Brant Local Health Integrated Network (LHIN 4). The program fosters the relationship between academic health care and clinical practice by being recognized as leaders in research and education. Our staff have strong academic linkages with McMaster University and the Dpeartment of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences. We have both an outpatient program and a 15 bed inpatient program, both of which employ a multidisciplinary team of psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, social workers, vocational rehabilitation therapists, and occupational therapists who assess and treat individuals with unipolar depression and bipolar disorder. The outpatient clinic is a consultation service that occassionally will provide short term interventions in the biological, psychotherapeutic, and rehabilitation spectrum. Referrals to the outpatient program must be made by a physician. The inpatient program optimizes a variety of proven treatment strategies with the aim of controlling the symptoms of a mood disorder, as well as supporting the recovery and rehabilitation of the person. Along with pharmacotherapy, several group therapies and psychoeducation are offered. Referrals to the inpatient unit are made through the Mental Health and Addictions Central Access Team at 905 522 1155 ext 36649 | |||
