DescriptionThe College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) is the licensing and regulatory body governing the practice of medicine in Ontario. The College is responsible for setting and maintaining medical standards, licensing physicians, investigating complaints about physicians on behalf of the public, and conducting hearings into allegations of professional misconduct, incompetence or incapacity.  
 
The governing Council of the College holds general meetings at least 4 times per year, which are open to the public. 
 
The College investigates complaints about doctors relating to the practice of medicine in accordance with the Regulated Health Professions Act.  
 
The College has no authority to assess or award damages or expenses. Issues of negligence and malpractice are the responsibility of the civil courts.
