|Description||The aim of the Ontario March of Dimes Employment Services Centre is to assist people with disabilities to move toward the goal of competitive employment. Four programs are provided. |
* Functional Abilities Evaluations
This program compares the client's abilities to the physical demands of their job or future job, and activities of daily living. The assessment will provide the client with safe working tolerances that will be beneficial in ensuring the job goal they identify is feasible from a physical standpoint.
* Vocational Assessment
A three day program uses the latest in psychometric testing in order for clients to gain a clear and realistic vocational direction (interests, aptitudes and abilities). The assessment identifies specific strengths and potential barriers the client faces. The results consider potential for training as well as the best type of learning environment for the client. Research is conducted into potential wages, labour market research, educational facilities and the future outlook of all the vocational options.
* Employment Planning
Research is done into resources to ensure the plan is complete. The plan will also identify any possible barriers or risks that would cause the client to be unable to access employment. The plan will also take into consideration the medical history of the client.
* Work Hardening
The goal of the Work Hardening Program is to build physical strength and tolerance in order to prepare the client to return to work. The goal is achieved through exercise and cardiovascular programs as well as job stimulation activities. The program is designed, modified and supervised by an Occupational Therapist and Kinesiologist.
