| Description | JHS Community Services include the following: * Community Education Program - provides presentations aimed at educating the public and professional communities about issues concerning the criminal justice system. This program is designed to provide the community with a balanced approach to information regarding the realities of crime, crime trends and statistics and the impact of crime on Hamilton and its citizens * Crisis Intervention and Reintegration Services (CIRS) - offered to individuals recently released from a correctional facility seeking support and information about community services in the Hamilton area * CIRS provides referrals to in house programs to persons at risk of involvement in the Adult Criminal Justice or Youth Justice Systems * Provides support and/or information to family members or victims of crime * Provides community organizations with information on John Howard Society programs and criminal justice issues * Family Support Program - consists of 4 open-group workshops which are offered 4 times a year. Workshops provide an opportunity for parents/guardians to network with others who maybe experiencing similar challenges with their teens. Parents/guardians will gain support and awareness on issues, which impact the youth of society in order to assist parents in helping their teens make appropriate choices and avoid conflict with the law * Parent Support Workshops - designed to teach effective parenting strategies to help parents to assist their children to constructively deal with the issues they may encounter during their adolescent years. Workshops are offered in an open group setting * Transportation Program - offers low cost, transportation for visitors to the federal institutions in the Warkworth and Kingston areas. Operated primarily by volunteers, the program allows for direct family contact which would not ordinarily be possible for most families due to financial difficulties | |||
