DescriptionThe alcohol and drug programs provide information, assessment, referral and treatment services geared to adults aged 23+. Both individual and group counselling options are offered. An assessment can help people decide if they need treatment, and what treatment is right for them. People may need help deciding whether to try to quit or cut down on their use of alcohol and/drugs. The team will help design a treatment plan to meet individual needs. Goals can include harm reduction, moderation or abstinence. Services are free and confidential. Available in English or French. A social worker is accessible by telephone to provide intake, information and consultation services to the public and professionals. Specialized group treatments:

Skills for Change (SFC)-- 12 weekly sessions help individuals increase or maintain their level of commitment to change and develop coping skills. Open admission after completing an intake by phone or at drop-in.

Relapse Prevention Program (RPP) -- Facilitated group for people who have received previous treatment for their substance abuse, and believe they are at risk to relapse. The focus of this group is to review, practice, and implement those skills that will reinforce abstinence.

Older, Wiser Lifestyles (OWL) -- The O.W.L. program is focused on assisting older adults (55+) who are concerned about their alcohol, prescription drug use, or gambling to make healthy lifestyle choices. Participants attend a seven session educational group and many continue in the ongoing O.W.L. groups.

Concurrent Disorders Groups -- Healthy Lifestyles Change Group (HLCG) offers support for those who present with a severe and persistent mental illness (e.g. schizophrenia) concurrent with substance use or gambling. Co-facilitated with Wellington Psychiatric Outreach Program.

Survivors and Substance Use-- A 10 week group for woman who are survivors of sexual violence and have concerns with their substance use. Co-facilitated with SACHA.
