DescriptionLegal Aid Ontario provides lawyers in family and criminal matters to people who qualify financially * Upon approval for Legal Aid, the individual selects a lawyer of their choice * The large majority of lawyers in Hamilton accept Legal Aid Certificates * Legal Aid Ontario is an independent corporation funded by and accountable to the province of Ontario 
 
Areas of law that may be covered include: 
* Criminal Law 
* Family Law 
* Civil Litigation 
* Refugee Law 
 
As of April 1, 2010 there have been some major changes in the way Legal Aid Ontario offers it's services to the public. The public is to call Legal Aid Ontario in Toronto at 1-800-668-8258. Persons will be interviewed and assessed over the phone and then a followup will be done at the local office or courthouse.

ApplicationAttend the Legal Aid office in person or telephone and staff will assist in determining whether the type of problem is covered by legal aid * Applications will not be completed until all financial information is received (i.e. cheque stubs; an up-to-date bank book(s) or statements; a receipt for rent etc.
