Description & Services
DescriptionThe Canadian Red Cross Society is a non-profit and voluntary organization whose one strategic goal is to improve the situation of the most vulnerable. 
 
Home Support Programs: 
Transportation: Volunteer drivers provide transportation to medical appointments and adult day programs for clients unable to access any other means of transportation. Trips must be requested in advance and there is a fee for this service. One on one grocery shopping is available with a volunteer 
Meals-on-Wheels: Provides nutritious meals to anyone unable to prepare their own meal. At a nominal cost, the client receives a lunchtime hot meal on one or up to 5 days per week. Frozen meals are also available to purchase and make a good alternative on weekends, holidays and bad weather days. Also transports individuals on social assistance to the food bank in Carlisle. Hours: Mon-Fri., 11:30 am-12:30pm Cost: $6.35 per meal. Transportation cost depends on distance. Guidelines: Must be a senior, person with a disability, or have difficulty preparing meals for themselves. Delivery area: Flamborough (including Carlisle, Waterdown, Westover, Millgrove, Freelton and Greensville)  
Wheels-to-Meals: Once a month to St James United Church Seniors luncheon 
First Aid and CPR: 
Provide training in First Aid, CPR, Advanced First Aid and Instructors. Injury Prevention programs also provided for babysitters and parents of young children. Contact Red Cross Hamilton Branch for further information 
Other Services: 
Babysitting courses occasionally, usually on PA days. The cost is $60, which includes lunch 
Disaster Services: Provides emergency short-term relief in minor disasters. Assistance consists of food, clothing, shelter and reuniting of families 
Home Health Equipment: short term loans of equipment such as walkers, wheelchairs, and commodes at a reasonable rental, medical referral required 
International Services: Responds to the needs of victims of disaster/conflicts with humanitarian assistance by providing food, water, shelter, medical care and supplies to those in need. The program is able to continue the work due to financial contributions 
The Tracing and Reunion Service helps immediate family members in Canada and abroad re-establish contact which has been lost due to war, conflict or disaster. Contact your local branch for further information
