| Description | Interval House is a transition house specifically for abused women over the age of 16, and their children, operating on a 24 hour basis, 7 days a week * All services are confidential and include: * Safe emergency shelter, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including all meals, emergency clothing and personal needs * 24-hour crisis telephone line, providing crisis counselling for non-residents and ex-residents. Interval House pays for long distance crisis calls * Free emergency transportation by taxi to Interval House for abused women and their children * Counselling services: one-to-one and group counselling for residents, with follow-up support for ex-residents. Counselling services for non residents on a one-to-one basis * Child and Youth program: Interval House offers both in-house recreational and therapeutic intervention for child witnesses of domestic violence against women, including group programs * Legal Advocate Program: for residents only, to assist them with criminal law and family law matters * Transitional Support Program: for ex-residents and non-residents, to assist women and their children in the community in identifying and connecting with the kinds of support and services required to establish violence and abuse-free lives Information and advocacy on legal rights, employment, housing and education is also provided. There is some provision for interpretive services for non-English speaking residents. Professional staff has a wide range of expertise including social work and child care disciplines. Referral service: Interval House works closely with a network of community agencies and helping professionals, the public and professional educators. Interval House also provides speakers to schools, professional agencies, churches and community groups, to speak on Interval House and on violence against women.
